Welding - 48 hours

This 48-hour, individualized block of instructor-led class-time in the weld shop provides individuals who have completed the Basic Welding (WELO 1400) course the opportunity to further their welding skills in one of the four processes below. More advanced welders (individuals with a lapsed certification) who wish to prepare for their CWB test will also benefit from individual instruction in the position or process of their choice. At the end of the 48-hour block, the instructor will provide feedback on your preparedness to pass the test.

1)SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) - Flat 1G2F, Horizontal 2G, Vertical 3GF, Overhead 4GF;
2)GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) - Flat 1G2F, Horizontal 2G;
3)GTAW (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) - Flat 1G2F;
4)MCAW (Metal Core Arc Welding) - Flat 1G2F, Horizontal 2G.

Notes:

For safety equipment, you will need safety boots/shoes, safety glasses and leather welding gloves.  If you have your own welding helmet, please bring it.  If not, you may borrow one of ours for the duration of the course.  We will supply leather shop coats (cloth shop coats are not acceptable).  There are no textbooks to purchase. 
Individuals who have not completed WELO 1400 but have a previous certification should contact ppl@durhamcollege.ca to make arrangements to register.

  • And WELO 1650 Welding - 12 Hours
