Recognizing Responsive Behaviours (Micro-credential)

The Recognizing Responsive Behaviours micro-credential examines a relational care approach to responsive behaviours in older adults with dementia. Students will examine the complexities of dementia and the many factors that affect responsive behaviours and the subsequent complexities of managing those responsive behaviours by caregivers. An emphasis will be placed on the cognitive, emotional, social, and psychological impacts on both the person with dementia and the caregiver.

  • A digital badge will be awarded upon the completion of this micro-credential.

  • IMPORTANT - PROGRAM SUSPENSION NOTICE - EFFECTIVE MARCH 2024 - This micro-credential is part of the SUSPENDED“ Managing Responsive Behaviours in Older Adults ” stacked micro-credential. The stacked micro-credential is only available to students who completed one or more of these courses before March 1, 2024. Students who successfully completed all three micro-credentials can apply to receive the “ Managing Responsive Behaviours in Older Adults ” stacked micro-credential.

  • This micro-credential has been developed for individuals (e.g. Social Service Workers, Personal Support Workers, Activation/Recreation Coordinators and others) working with older adults in residential or community care settings.

    MICRO-CREDENTIAL FEATURES:

  • Can be completed in 7 weeks or less
  • Self-directed, asynchronous learning with the support of a facilitator
  • Real-world assessment(s) to evaluate competencies
  • Interactive multimedia components
  • Pass / Fail grading structure

    ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) including Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U) OR;
  • Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading OR;
  • Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older) with Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U)
    Recommended: Post-secondary certificate, diploma or degree in a health or social services field.

    PROGRAM COMPETENCIES:

    Upon completion of this Micro-credential, students will be equipped to:

  • Identify the range and complexity of responsive behaviours in older adults with dementia.
