Early Childhood Education Field Placement I & Seminar

Code:
FWK 2381

Students may choose between a placement alternative course and an in-person placement.   Please read the information below and follow the instructions for the option you wish to choose.

Option 1 -  Field Placement Alternative (online) Course:  In this 70-hour placement alternative course, students apply their knowledge and skills working with children and families in a online, mentored environment. Students will engage with a variety of videos, discussions and assignments that will allow them to meet the required learning outcomes of the typical Field Placement.  This online course option does not require the submission of paperwork, however, students must send the email noted below in order for a prerequisite audit to be completed prior to being permitted to register for the course.

All prerequisite requirements must be verified in order to be granted approval to register for this course. Students must send an email to pplplacements@durhamcollege.ca including your name and ID number requesting permission to register for this course. Registration approval will be sent to your DCMAIL.ca email account only.
Please visit our Field Placement webpage for more information:

Option 2 - In-person Field Placement: Students will participate in practice teaching experiences in early childhood settings / agencies under the supervision of an ECE online facilitator.  Gradually, you will assume increased responsibility for working with children, individually and in groups.  In addition, you will focus on the development of effective communication skills through interaction with children and adults in the placement setting. The placement is 182 hours long.

All students wishing to apply for a PPL field placement, must request activation before the paperwork modules close, and submit any required documentation by the posted deadline.  It is the student's responsibility to visit the field placement page to learn about these deadlines and how to submit paperwork.

Notes:

For both options, students must register for the ECE Field Placement I & Seminar course or in-person placement (FWK 2381) at the same time as the ECE Field Placement Preparation II course (FWKP 2382)

Students are strongly encouraged to register for both the Observing the Young Child course (CHLD1383) in the same semester as ECE Field Placement I & Seminar (FWK 2381), as the documentation is required for both courses.

Students must sign on to DC Connect at http://www.durhamcollege.ca/connect using their student number and password (birthdate MMDDYR) to access this online course. You will not be able to access the course until the start date. Please allow 24 hours after registration for the system to update.

Students will be allowed to register and take Observing the Young Child (CHLD1383) along with ECE Field Placement & Seminar I during the same semester. However, if you decide to withdraw from the Observing course you will also have to withdraw from the Field Placement I course as the Observing course is a prerequisite or must be taken at the same time. If you withdraw after the official withdrawal date there will be no refund for either course.
