Retirement Communities Management Field Placement

Code:
FWK 3580

This course looks at how managing a Retirement Community Organization involves different factors - planning, organizing, leading and controlling of resources to achieve goals effectively and efficiently. Resources may include people, inventory, information, skills and financial capital. This course looks at emerging trends in management and how these impact the administration of Retirement Communities.

Notes:

Note: The placement should expose you to each functional area in a typical retirement home - e.g. front reception, food services (kitchen & dining room), recreation, housekeeping, sales and marketing, nursing, building maintenance, management. Typically, at least one shift should be spent per functional area in the retirement home - this equates to approximately 70-80 hours in the home. In the student role, you are job “shadowing” and must have appropriate supervision at all times.

Students in the Retirement Communities Management program are required to research and secure their placement. Placements are to be in a retirement home that is a member of the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA). For more details about field placement, including required paperwork submission deadlines, please visit the Field Placement Page, and for specific program-related field placement questions, please review the Healthcare Field Placement FAQs.

Note: This course includes mandatory chats.
