Finishing Your Basement Professionally

In this course, you will have the opportunity to design your own finished basement, prepare a detailed list of all the materials needed and create a realistic budget for your renovation. You will learn the advantages and disadvantages of different finishing methods available which will allow you to make educated decisions based on your budget and lifestyle. You will learn the basic techniques for many of the topics listed below; however, due to time constraints, it will be mostly demonstrations with limited hands-on experience. Topics include: design and layout, budgeting, subfloor, framing, electrical, insulation, ceilings, drywall, doors, trim, flooring, bathrooms, building code and permits. Note: due to course content, you MUST attend the first night of class.

Notes:

The location of the Shop is at Monsignor John Pereyma Catholic Secondary School, 316 Conant Street, Oshawa (south on Ritson Road, south of Bloor Street). Safety equipment, including safety glasses and boots are mandatory in all shop/lab classes. Important note: This course runs every second week. There will be no class on February 3, 17, March 2, 16, 30.
