Lean Green Belt

An “Agent for Change” best describes the Lean Green Belt. Organizations that have embraced Lean as a strategy for continuous improvement depend on their Green Belts to lead impactful, multi-departmental, cross-functional projects and promote the use of basic quality and Lean methods across the enterprise.

Understanding the Lean body of knowledge and able to leverage basic quality tools, project management and change management techniques, the Lean Green Belt works effectively on the front-line of product and service delivery as well as in focused process improvement project environments where they support rapid improvement (kaizen) events, more complex value stream mapping improvement projects, or the implementation of 5S and other workplace organization tools.

Students acquire a comprehensive set of Lean tools, methods and project management and facilitative skills that can be applied to complex value stream transformation projects, typically spanning multiple departments.

Upon successful completion, you will be able to:

  • Establish “winning conditions” for improvement projects with well-crafted project charters, change readiness and stakeholder analyses, and prepare detailed plans using Gantt charts.
  • Construct current and future state value stream maps that incorporate vital process data including and not limited to process and cycle times, value and non-value added time, and the takt time (“pace”) to meet customer demand.
  • Identify and eliminate waste and constraints to flow in a future state value stream by employing appropriate Lean techniques, including ‘kanban'' material management systems and ‘just in time'' principles to achieve single piece flow.
  • Employ a variety of Lean techniques to balance work, reduce bottlenecks, improve office and work cell design for improved efficiency, and implement rapid change over (SMED) to increase productivity and throughput.
  • Assist an organization in the development and deployment of a Total Productive Maintenance Program (TPM) to improve overall equipment efficiency (OEE).

  • This course is delivered virtually through an interactive online platform in conjunction with Algonquin College. You require access to a computer with high-speed internet and camera for the duration of each class. By enrolling in this course, you consent to the sharing of your personal information with Algonquin College for registration purposes.
  • Students will receive a course completion certificate directly from Algonquin College upon successful completion of the course.
  • Withdrawals are only accepted up to 3 business days prior to the course start date (withdrawal fees will apply). No refunds or withdrawals are permitted after this date.

    Note: The Lean Belt program is a progressive learning path. Apart from the first course, each course has a prerequisite, the preceding course(s) or equivalent training is required before registering;

  • Lean White Belt – PROJ 1986: no prerequisite
  • Lean Yellow Belt – PROJ 2986: White Belt prerequisite (or equivalent)
  • Lean Green Belt – PROJ 1985: White Belt and Yellow Belt prerequisite (or equivalent)
  • Lean Black Belt – PROJ 2985: White Belt, Yellow Belt, and Green Belt prerequisite (or equivalent)
