Red Seal Welder Practical Test

Code:
WELO 1058

Effective March 1, 2017, all apprentices and individuals going through the Trade Equivalency Assessment are required to complete a welder practical assessment prior to the written examination. Upon successful completion of both the practical assessment and the written examination, a Certificate of Qualification with a Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) will be issued.

For the practical assessment, apprentices and Trade Equivalency Assessment applicants must complete six welding processes and the oxy-fuel cutting component, as outlined below:

Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW – 3G)
Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW – 3F and 4G)
Gas metal arc welding (GMAW – 1G)
Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW – 2G)
Flux cored arc welding (FCAW – 3F and 4G)
Oxy-fuel cutting

Experienced welders who have proof of corresponding Canadian Welding Bureau or American Society of Mechanical Engineers certifications (tickets) for any or all Tests 1 through 6, only have to complete the missing component(s) and the oxy-fuel cutting component of the practical assessment. Contact our office for details. A refund of $80.00 per equivalent component will be issued.

A minimum of 3 participants are required -- the test may be rescheduled if not enough participants are available.

The testing will take place in the Welding Shop located in the Whitby Campus, 1610 Champlain Ave, Whitby ON L1N 6A7.

The student is required to bring valid identification and provide any documentation of welding tickets from previous positions for upgrading to higher positions. The student will also be required to provide and wear proper PPE in the welding shop, which includes safety glasses, safety boots and gloves. Welding helmets and leather jackets can be provided by the college.
