Durham College Recognition of Achievement

Program Description

The CCNA certification (through Cisco®) validates your skills and knowledge in network fundamentals, network access, IP connectivity, IP services, security fundamentals, and automation and programmability. This program prepares you to challenge the Cisco® certification exam; 200-301 CCNA - Implementing and Administering Cisco® Solutions (CCNA), which covers a broad range of fundamentals for IT careers, based on the latest networking technologies, software development skills, and job roles.

Note: This program does not include the cost of the Cisco® certification exam(s).

There are no formal prerequisites for CCNA certification, but CCNA candidates often have:

  • One or more years of experience implementing and administering Cisco® solutions
  • Knowledge of basic IP addressing
  • A good understanding of network fundamentals

Certificate Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) including Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U) OR
  • Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading OR
  • Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older) with Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U)
  • You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
  • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

Program Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

  • Configure the components of a wired and wireless local and wide area network to establish the network infrastructure.
  • Configure and verify IPv4 and IPv6 static and dynamic routing to transfer data across the network.
  • Configure access control to secure the network.

Career Options

Potential career and industry options may include:

  • Graduates may find entry-level IT positions which require an understanding of Cisco® networks.
