Program Description

This program is designed to prepare you to communicate (speaking, reading and writing) effectively and with confidence. The Spanish program will be of particular interest to individuals in business, or in any career dealing with the public, as well as people who enjoy vacationing in Spanish-speaking countries.

Certificate Requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) OR
  • Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading OR
  • Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older)
  • You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
  • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

Program Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

  • Communicate verbally in the Spanish language about personal, historical, and cultural topics at an intermediate level
  • Write grammatically-correct documents for personal and beginner professional use by applying simple tenses and at an introductory level, compound tenses
  • Read Spanish literature, magazines, news articles and stories at an intermediate level
  • Express an appreciation for Spanish culture when communicating in the Spanish language
