WHAT IS THE FIELD PLACEMENT PAPERWORK SUBMISSION AND COURSE REGISTRATION DEADLINE?

FIELD PLACEMENT DOCUMENT SUBMISSION DEADLINE:

All Students, regardless of program, must have all accurate, completed documentation uploaded to the DC Connect Pre-Placement Paperwork module by April 17, 2018 .

FIELD PLACEMENT COURSE REGISTRATION DEADLINE:

ECE & SSW Field Placement Students
Seats are limited in the ECE & SSW placement courses.
Students in the ECE and SSW programs will be permitted to register for the placement course once all documentation has been uploaded to the Pre-Placement Paperwork module in DC Connect and approved by the Placement Officer. 
Approvals and time sensitive instructions on how to register will be sent to each student’s DCMAIL.ca email account.

 Business, Educational Support, Nursing and Victimology Program Students
Students in these programs must be registered for the placement course, including any associated co-requisite courses, and have all documentation uploaded by April 17, 2018.  You can register and pay for these course in the same manner as registering for any of your previous theory courses.

AM I ELIGIBLE FOR FIELD PLACEMENT?

You are eligible if you have the following:

  1. Successful completion of ALL required prerequisite courses
  2. Achieved a minimum Program GPA of 2.0
  3. Completed and uploaded all of the required documentation for your program’s field placement by the posted deadline.

Note: You will be advised via email (sent to your DCMAIL.ca email address) and removed from the placement course if you have not met the above minimum criteria.

WHERE DO I UPLOAD MY PAPERWORK?

Once you have requested activation in DC Connect, within 24-48 hours, you will see the “Pre-Placement Paperwork” module associated with your program.  This is where you will upload your documentation.

WHAT IS THE PENDING ACTIVATION MODULE ON MY DC CONNECT COURSE LISTING?

The “Pending Activation” module allows our IT department to register you in one of the “Pre-Placement Paperwork” modules. The “Pre-Placement Paperwork” module associated with your program will contain all of the required documentation for your program’s field placement eligibility.

The Pending Activation module does not contain any dropboxes for uploading paperwork.

 

WHEN CAN I UPLOAD MY DOCUMENTATION?

The Pre-Placement Paperwork modules will be open for uploading from March 1 – April 17, 2018.

DOES MY PAPERWORK HAVE TO BE APPROVED BEFORE I CAN REGISTER FOR THE FIELD PLACEMENT COURSE?

Business, Educational Support, Nursing & Victimology Students:  Do not wait until your paperwork has been approved before registering for the field placement course(s) online.  You must be registered and have your documentation submitted by the deadline posted.

WHEN CAN I REGISTER FOR MY FIELD PLACEMENT COURSE?

Business, Educational Support, Nursing & Victimology Students can register for the field placement courses online from December 4, 2017 – April 17, 2018.

ECE & SSW students: must have all documentation submitted and approved before permitted to register for the course itself.
Seats are limited for the placement courses in these programs.  You will be advised to register (via your DCMAIL.ca email account only) once your documentation has been reviewed and approved.
Seats will be approved for students who have uploaded complete and approved documentation on a first come, first served basis.

I NEED TO REGISTER FOR MY FIELD PLACEMENT, BUT OSAP HAS NOT PROVIDED ME WITH MY FUNDS YET. WHAT DO I DO?

Please send an email to placementsconed@durhamcollege.ca to advise the placement officer.

Regardless of your OSAP status, you will be required to submit all of your complete documentation by the posted deadlines.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF/WHEN MY PAPERWORK HAS BEEN APPROVED?

Each assignment box in the Pre-Placement Paperwork module will be reviewed, assigned a grade and feedback provided.  You will receive this feedback in DC Connect only.  It is your responsibility to keep checking the module until all of the items have been reviewed and graded.

Approval of paperwork does not mean you are cleared to begin your placement hours.  Once your agency has been contacted and confirmed by the Placement Officer, you will receive an official clearance email (to your DCMAIL.ca account only) advising you of your next steps.

Any hours completed prior to official clearance will not be counted and will need to be made up before the end date of the course.

WHEN WILL I BE CLEARED TO START MY PLACEMENT?

Once your documentation has been reviewed and approved and your placement agency has been confirmed, you will receive a clearance email via your DCMAIL.ca email account only, advising you of your next steps.

Students will not be cleared prior to the posted start date.

Students are not permitted to start before official clearance.  Hours completed prior to official clearance will not be counted and will need to be made up before the end date for the course.

It takes a significant amount of time to review all student paperwork.  Once this is complete, the process of placing and clearing students will begin.  Please refrain from contacting Continuing Education or the Placement Officer to check the status of your placement clearance.  You will  be advised as soon as this information is available.

CAN I CALL OR EMAIL FOR PLACEMENT STATUS UPDATES?

It is preferred that students refrain from calling or emailing to get updates.  This takes time away from the process of securing your placement.

Every student is provided with feedback in DC Connect on each submission.  If you receive a “P” or “Pass” for all items, the next step is for the Placement Officer to confirm and secure your agency and then clear you to begin.
We encourage students to check DC Connect and your DCMAIL.ca account daily for updates and any important communication.

Depending on your program and the type of agency you are to be placed with, securing and confirming a placement can take time.  Multiple agencies may need to be contacted in order to find a suitable placement opportunity.
You will be contacted as soon as an agency has been confirmed for you.

HOW WILL I BE NOTIFIED WHEN I AM CLEARED?

Students will be contacted via email to their DC MAIL email account ONLY.
Clearances will not be sent to personal email accounts. Please ensure you are checking your dcmail.ca account regularly.

Students may wish to have their DCMAIL.ca account forwarded to their personal account.  Instructions for doing this can be found in the Pre-Placement Paperwork module or by contacting IT Support Services at 905-721-3333.
