Sandra Mairs, a registered nurse since 1992, joined the Durham College/UOIT Collaborative Nursing faculty in August 2008. Prior to her position as a full-time professor, she worked as a clinical nurse specialist at the Whitby Mental Health Centre (WMHC), providing advanced practice nursing support to the seniors’ program and neuropsychiatry rehabilitation services.
Mairs holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Ottawa and a Master’s of Health Science degree in Nursing from Charles Sturt University in Australia, as well as an adult education certificate from Durham College and a five-year certification in Gerontology from the Canadian Nurses Association.
Mairs has spent her entire career in geriatrics in a variety of roles including registered nurse, clinical analyst, nurse educator, clinical education leader and clinical nurse specialist at a number of organizations, including Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Providence Centre, Lakeridge Health and WMHC. Her main teaching interests are the care of the elderly and mental health.
