Susan Hartwell joined Durham College 10 years ago as a part-time faculty member. In 2007 she became a full-time faculty in the Early Childhood Education program teaching courses such as prevention and identification of child abuse, the role of the professional, communication techniques and observing the young child.
Hartwell graduated from the Early Childhood Education program at Centennial College in 1985 and continued her education, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Trent University in 1994.
Prior to coming to Durham College, Hartwell had 12 years experience working with children in a variety of capacities, including employment at a day-care centre, nursery school, board of education and working with special-needs children.
An advocate of high-quality children’s care, Hartwell currently sits on the Durham Region Child Care Forum board.
