Welcome to the School of Media, Art & Design at Durham College!
The School of MAD provides practical, hands-on experiences and critical discussions led by passionate, generous professors and technical staff. MAD students learn to use their skills and creative talents to collaborate with community groups and not-for-profit organizations and make a significant, positive contribution to the culture and economy of this region. By helping community groups achieve their goals, students understand how classroom learning can be applied to real projects, outside the college. We’re developing projects with industry partners that provide exceptional learning experiences while bringing creative products to market.
MAD’s curriculum challenges students to explore critical social issues such as sustainability, marginalization, poverty and gender politics in over twenty different programs. Our students and employees add value to our community; promote social and environmental justice; and connect our community to the social and natural systems that sustain us all. As the Durham Region grows and continues to develop a new economy in media, energy, agriculture and tourism, the School of Media, Art and Design will provide the next generation of talented people who can tell that emerging story.
We have lots of well-equipped workspaces: tune your skills in the simulated radio station or build your knowledge in the fabrication studios. Our MAD learning environment is enriched by its close proximity to galleries, museums and studios in Oshawa, Whitby and Toronto. Through courses in business and marketing, MAD students learn to combine their professional education with the entrepreneurial skills needed to build a successful career in Ontario’s vibrant culture sector.
We educate students to enter careers that a lot of people want. MAD grads use their creativity to make a real contribution at work, in their communities and in their own lives. We ensure our graduates are ready for creative work and serious play.
It’s your turn. Make something. Make a difference.
