How to apply for a SoTL project

The first step when considering a SoTL project is to speak with your Dean about your interest and the specific question that you would like to investigate related to student learning. There are a number of factors to consider when discussing a SoTL project which may include timeline, resource requirements, implications for teaching load, impact on grades and academic progress, and course and student requirements. Most of this can be considered ahead of time, but some factors may be worked through during this discussion.

You will also need to determine if you are going to be competing the investigation on your own, or if there is merit in establishing a team. Different voices offer difference ideas and perspectives, which may broaden the scope of the project. The lead researcher must be a full-time, non-probationary faculty member at Durham College; however, the other members of the team may comprise part-time faculty, administrative staff, support staff, and/or students.

An initial research proposal constitutes your application for the SoTL project. Guidelines for developing the proposal can be found here, or you may complete this application form.

Completed applications should be emailed to SoTL@durhamcollege.ca by the published due date. Applications will be reviewed on an on-going, as received basis.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS:

Lead researcher eligibility: full-time, non-probationary faculty

Must be grounded and conducted in an existing course.
