COVID-19 update – confirmed case associated with Durham College’s Campus Corners building at the Oshawa campus

Dear students,

I’m writing to advise you that a case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in connection with Durham College’s (DC) administrative building, Campus Corners, located at the south-east corner of Simcoe Street and Conlin Road in Oshawa.

Early this evening, we were advised that a Durham College employee has tested positive for travel-related COVID-19. The employee worked part of the day on March 16 and went home after feeling ill. Since that time, the employee has not returned to work and has been in self-isolation.

Our thoughts are with our DC employee and their family as they self-isolate and recover.

Public health has identified those individuals who were in close contact with the employee and will contact them directly to provide further direction and instructions. They have identified the risk to DC’s campus community as it relates to this situation, as low.

We continue to work closely with public health authorities to stay informed and receive timely guidance and directives.

The health and safety of our campus community remains our highest priority, as it has been from day one. DC has taken extensive measures to help control the spread of COVID-19, including closing our campuses, transitioning to online course and service delivery, introducing a work-from-home model, and implementing enhanced cleaning and disinfection protocols.

Please be reminded to follow all precautionary protocols outlined by public health authorities. Wash your hands frequently, stay home and continue social or physical distancing, and self-monitor. If you have COVID-19 related symptoms, self-isolate and complete the online self-assessment tool.
