COVID-19 Update: Confirmed positive case of COVID-19 at DC’s Oshawa campus

Confirmed positive case of COVID-19 at DC’s Oshawa campus

Tuesday, September 22

This morning we received confirmation that a Durham College (DC) student has tested positive for COVID-19. The student was on campus for a very short period of time in the A-Wing of the Gordon Willey building, Oshawa campus on September 11 and is currently isolating at home based on Durham Region Public Health (DRPH) direction.

Appropriate risk mitigation measures are taking place at the college in consultation with Public Health to ensure the health and safety of the entire campus community.

Additionally, Public Health is in the process of completing necessary contact tracing and will directly contact any student or employee who may be determined to be at risk. It is important to remember that Public Health leads COVID-19 contact tracing for any member of our community and will only contact individuals as deemed necessary.

While the student recovers, we will continue to accommodate them academically to ensure they are fully supported. We wish them a speedy recovery.

It is crucial that all students and employees continue to follow the college’s strict preventative safety measures when coming to campus and while on campus. As a reminder, all individuals on campus are asked to:

  • Wear a mask or face covering when inside.
  • Sanitize regularly, practice physical distancing and self-screen upon entry to college buildings.
  • Limit capacity in departments and offices to ensure proper physical distancing guidelines are followed.
  • Only come to campus for a scheduled class, activity or service appointment or to use campus resources, such as the Campus Library or Wi-Fi access.
  • Leave campus buildings immediately after your scheduled class or activity is over.

Students and employees who are feeling unwell should stay home, seek guidance from Public Health and follow the steps outlined in our COVID reporting document.

If you are feeling unwell, students are to contact and employees are to contact To ensure full transparency when reporting positive COVID-19 cases at DC, the college has developed a reporting dashboard, found on our coronavirus webpage, that will be updated daily.

The health and safety of our campus community remains our highest priority and DC has taken extensive measures to help control the spread of COVID-19. We will continue to provide COVID-19 updates to the campus community through email, the DC Mobile app and on the COVID-19 webpage. If you have a question that hasn’t been answered on our COVID-19 webpage, we encourage you to email
