COVID-19 update: Impacts to Durham College regarding province-wide shutdown beginning Saturday, December 26

Today the provincial government announced a province-wide shutdown beginning Saturday, December 26 at 12:01 a.m., in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Announced Monday, December 21 to take affect Saturday, December 26.

  • With Durham Region in shutdown until Saturday, January 23, 2021, Durham College (DC) will see some changes affecting our in-person services and academic program delivery.
  • Following provincial guidelines, approved in-person learning activities at DC’s campuses will transition to meet the additional restrictions as required.
  • Students in programs affected by the new restrictions will be contacted directly by their school office as soon as possible.
  • Remote classes continue as scheduled beginning Wednesday, January 6.
  • Employees deemed essential to campus operations and supporting students are permitted to be on campus. Those employees will be contacted directly by their supervisor.
  • Any person permitted to come to campus must continue to follow DC’s safety protocols.
  • The campus is closed for all other regular activities and is prepared to serve students remotely. For a full list of campus services and hours, please visit our COVID-19 campus operations page.
  • Residences remain open.
  • Food Services at Oshawa and Whitby campuses are closed; South Village Dining Hall remains open for students who live in residence.

As a college system, we are working together to determine how we can continue to serve students’ educational needs under these new restrictions. As more information becomes available, we will be sure to communicate with you.

As always, maintaining health and safety, while ensuring the highest quality educational experience remains our strict priority. As we have seen in the fall semester, the protocols DC has in place are working. We will continue to follow the direction of our government and public health authorities.

Once again, together we will get through this.
