In This Together DC: Update on C+M activities

As part of our In This Together DC email series, today’s update will provide you with details about ongoing activities in the Communications and Marketing (C+M) department.

As a team, navigating through the challenges and changes of Durham College’s (DC) response to COVID-19, we’ve gained an even deeper appreciation for the importance of and need for clear, timely and thoughtful communication. In addition to the frequent updates and announcements we prepare and distribute around COVID, C+M continues to support our colleagues across the college on a variety of key initiatives. Below are highlights of some of our most recent projects.

Looking forward, looking back

  • 2020-2021 Business Plan

Developed with the Office of the President, this guiding document complements our 2020-2023 Strategic Plan by articulating DC’s actionable goals for 2020 to 2021. The plan will be published and shared with employees in the near future, per amended Ministry timelines.

  • 2019-2020 Annual Report

Always providing vital acknowledgement and record of what we’ve accomplished, the Annual Report summarizes the work of our employees and students, and reflects on DC’s community impact. This year’s digital report will be shared and published in July.

  • Canada’s Top 100 Employers submission

We know DC is a great place to work and learn, and we’re proud to share our story with the rest of Canada. Working closely with Human Resources, C+M is once again preparing our submission to be considered as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, which highlights how our best practices, progressive policies and innovative programs push the boundaries to create a rewarding workplace for our people.

Guiding new and prospective students

  • 2021-2022 College Guide microsite

A collaboration with Strategic Enrolment Services and our academic schools, the College Guide microsite will serve as a gateway for prospective students, parents and educators to virtually explore DC’s programs, campuses and student services and activities, while also providing opportunities for real-time connections with our recruitment team. This project is expected to launch in August.

  • School viewbooks

These digital viewbooks are the first of their kind for DC and offer a fresh, interactive way for us to share the unique stories, successes and features of each academic school with prospective students, industry partners and placement hosts. Each book will leverage digital assets, including embedded videos, links to our website, features and blogs. Look for the viewbooks to launch in September and October.

  • Professional and Part-time Learning (PPL) support

PPL’s is moving to one annual program guide for 2020-2021 and will also go digital this year; watch for it this July.

Staying connected

  • DC News weekly newsletter

Coming soon – a weekly summary of news and events from ICE delivered directly to your inbox. Stay in-the-know with a wrap-up of weekly announcements that will be shared each Friday.

  • Social media

DC’s accounts across multiple platforms provide our followers with up-to-date information about campus status, safety precautions and academic information. The interactive, real-time nature of social media also allows us to engage with followers and answer their questions quickly. Recent DC social content has celebrated Pride month and offered resources and learning about anti-Black racism. Training and support to DC’s social media administrators and ambassadors is delivered frequently, including sharing best practices, content ideas, and community management tips.

  • DC Cares

Community inquiries through social media and DC Cares have skyrocketed since campus closed in March. To ensure we continue to deliver prompt, informative responses, DC Cares joined other areas of the college in launching live chat functionality this spring.

  • #DCGrad2020

Traditional convocation ceremonies may be postponed, but that’s not stopping DC from celebrating our grads! Working with SES, festivities are underway with the release of the “Graduate Recognition Form”. Graduates, their families and friends, as well as DC employees, can submit pictures, share stories and post congratulatory messages to our newest alumni. These shout-outs will be featured on DC’s Convocation Recognition website, launching on Monday, June 29.  You’ll hear more soon!
