In This Together DC: Update on Enrolment Services activities and convocation

As part of our In This Together DC email series, today’s update will share with you details about ongoing Enrolment Services activities and convocation updates.

With the warm and sunny weather upon us, it reminds us of how eager we are to return to a life of normalcy – but, what is normal? What will our new normal look like? While we don’t have the answer to those questions, I can assure you that Strategic Enrolment Services is hard at work ensuring that our services can be accessed online and that we will continue to serve our students virtually as we approach the fall semester.

As physical distancing requirements will reduce the number of students we can serve in-person come September, we are already advancing and leveraging our technology to continue providing students with a superior experience.

Here are some exciting things we have accomplished and are working on to support our students, virtually:

Although we have postponed our in-person convocation ceremonies, we are committed to celebrating the success of our graduating class of 2020. Our teams are hard at work auditing graduates, planning a virtual recognition event and preparing to mail credentials to our successful grads later this summer.

Admissions and Recruitment

The Admissions and Recruitment teams have been in regular communication with our prospective students and applicants to ensure that they are feeling informed through these unprecedented times. They are using the live chat function on our webpages, are connecting virtually with prospective students and have been teaming up with our campus community to promote DC. Our Recruitment team is also proud to have hosted DC’s first Virtual Open House in April where many DC employees and faculty joined over 2,300 students from more than 90 countries to share why we love DC.

Enrolment Services

Enrolment Services has worked closely with IT in order to adapt to the changing environment to offer the majority of in-person services to students virtually. These virtual additions include a remote contact centre, the ability to produce PDF transcripts to distribute to other academic institutions or employers, an update to the winter semester grading policy, remote part-time registration for the spring semester and more.

Systems and Scheduling

The Systems and Scheduling teams have been supporting students, faculty and employees behind-the-scenes by developing online systems to allow students to access our services. Some of their successes include online verification of graduation letters, online registration for part-time students and the launch of the live chat system so students can connect with many departments across campus. They have also been working around the clock to support our academic partners to meet the changing needs of our scheduling and curriculum demands for students.

Student Academic Learning Services (SALS)

SALS has successfully moved their in-person and peer tutoring services to a virtual platform. They have created a Transitioning to Online Learning video to help students adapt to this new mode of delivery. They have also been working to convert many resources and materials to SALS ONLINE so students can have full access to online supports for the fall.

Financial Aid

The Financial Aid and Awards team have been meeting with students virtually to assist students in accessing emergency bursary assistance and OSAP. In less than two months they have assessed more than 2,000 bursary applications and have awarded more than $500,000 in immediate support. They anticipate to award over $1 million in support before the fall semester begins.

The Strategic Enrolment Services team will continue to advance our processes and systems to support student success.

Thank you to all for your continued dedication and support!

Stay Safe,
