Two new COVID-19 cases reported at the Oshawa campus – one has resulted in an outbreak

Tuesday, January 26

We have been advised that two additional COVID-19 cases have been reported at DC’s Oshawa campus associated with the Gordon Willey building.

  • The first individual was last on campus in the A-Wing on Wednesday, January 13. This case is unrelated to any other case that has been reported on campus.
  • The second individual was last on campus in the H-Wing on Wednesday, January 20. This case is related to a previously communicated case and therefore, the Durham Region Health Department (DRHD) has declared an outbreak in the affected area.
  • An outbreak is defined by the DRHD as two or more lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases in students and/or employees (or other visitors) where at least one case could have reasonably acquired their infection on campus.
  • Extensive disinfecting has taken place in the H-wing and DRHD has confirmed the space is safe for use.
  • At this time, all members of our campus community who may be at risk through this exposure have been contacted by the DRHD and are isolating at home.
  • DRHD has determined there is a low risk to our campus community.

  • DC is working closely with DRHD to ensure all necessary health and safety measures are in place to protect the entire campus community, including daily reporting and a coordinated space audit to mitigate future transmission.
  • Daily pandemic cleaning protocols with increased cleaning of the campus and disinfecting high touch surfaces, have been implemented at the college through specific direction from DRHD.
  • If you have not been contacted, your campus classes and activities continue as scheduled.

If feeling unwell:

  • Please do not come to campus if you’re feeling unwell.
  • If you are feeling unwell, or aren’t sure whether or not you should come to campus, please stay home, complete the online assessment form at and visit for more information about COVID-19.
  • If you have received a COVID-19 test, you are required to remain at home until you are cleared by DC’s risk management/health and safety office.

If you must come to campus:

  • Prior to arriving on campus, complete the mandatory one minute COVID-19 screening questionnaire.
  • All students, employees and visitors are required to wear a mask while on campus at all times.
  • Masks may only be removed in designated eating areas while eating and must be put back on once eating is complete.
  • Eating is not permitted outside of designated spaces, such as lounges and hallways.
  • Follow all of DC’s preventative safety measures.

The health and safety of our students and employees is of utmost importance. These stringent COVID-19 requirements have been developed with guidance from public health authorities and are to be followed by all community members when on our campuses. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the health and well-being of our classmates and colleagues through the mandatory use of masks while on campus, as well as following the preventative safety measures.
