International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) is recognized across the globe to address the discrimination, hate and violence experienced by the Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and all other identities not mentioned in the acronym, 2SLGBTQQIA+. Nearly 59% of transgender and gender-diverse individuals report experiencing violent victimization. Additionally, Statistics Canada reported that in 2023, hate crimes targeting sexual orientation had risen 69% from the previous year, totaling an increase of 388% over the past seven years between 2016 and 2023.   
  
The theme for 2025 IDAHOBIT, “The Power of Communities,” emphasizes the critical need for unity and collective action against the growing discrimination, hate and violence faced by 2SLGBTQIQIA+ individuals.
