National Indigenous History Month Start: June 1 @ 12:00 am End: June 30 @ 11:59 pm Event Category: Indigenous Details: National Indigenous History Month is observed in Canada every June to recognize and celebrate the history, heritage, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. It offers an opportunity for all Canadians to learn about the diverse Indigenous communities across the country, their deep-rooted traditions, and the ongoing challenges they face due to colonialism and systemic inequities. This is also a time to reflect on the truths of Canada’s past, including the legacy of residential schools, and to support reconciliation efforts. Throughout June, First People’s Indigenous Centre (FPIC) will be hosting a variety of events to offer the Durham College (DC) community a chance to learn together while enjoying some time as a community. We will be running six feature length documentary screenings, two will be pop-culture based, two environmental, and two will be Pride month-themed.
