What is the Pickering Learning Site?

Durham College and Centennial College have partnered to bring post-secondary education to the City of Pickering with the launch of the new Pickering Learning Site opening September 2012. The new site will provide post-secondary educational opportunities where none currently exist and appeal to a specific target audience interested in furthering their credentials and career opportunities with post-graduate certificate studies.

Where is the site located?

The site is located just north of Highway 401 off Liverpool Road at 1340 Pickering Parkway and provides a direct connection to GO transit and other public transit via a walking bridge.

What programs are being offered at the Pickering Learning Site?

The Pickering Learning Site is a joint partnership with Centennial College. Each college will be offering different graduate certificate programs. Durham College will offer:

How were the programs selected?

Durham College’s vision was to offer post-graduate programs that would benefit most from the small, professional environment the new Pickering Learning Site will offer. Programs were reviewed in consultation with faculty and careful consideration was given to those which would benefit from being closer to existing job markets and also complement Centennial College’s four program offerings.

Will my program be offered at an alternate location?

No. All Durham College programs being offered at the Pickering Learning Site will only be offered at this one location.

Why would I want to go to the Pickering Learning Site for my post-graduate studies?

The Pickering Learning Site will offer students the opportunity to learn at Durham College’s newest, most modern facility in a unique setting. Students will have the added benefit of learning in a small, progressive learning environment, which offers innovative curricula delivery in a geographical location that provides a multitude of field placement opportunities.

What services will be offered at the Pickering Learning Site?

At Durham College the student experience comes first and we are committed to providing a full array of student services at the Pickering Learning Site.

What IT services will be available?

There will be kiosk machines available to students to work and print from (should they not have their own device) as well as wireless and new state-of-the-art technology in all classrooms to enhance the learning experience.

What options are available for student housing?

Students studying at the Pickering Learning Site are eligible to apply for residence at the Oshawa campus. Students are also encouraged to visit our online housing service and the local newspapers for information on available rooms, apartments and housing.

Will there be student lounge areas?

Yes. The new facility will offer student lounge areas and include break-out spaces to facilitate group work. The site is also completely accessible, adhering to the Accessibility of Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) standards.

Will there be security on site?

Will parking be available at the Pickering Learning Site?

Free parking will be available in lots W6,W7,W8, W9, S9 or S10 as shown on the map. Note that the lots closest to the building are permit only, unauthorized vehicles will be ticketed.

Will there be a shuttle available from the Oshawa campus to the Pickering Learning Site?

No.

Will there be any discounts on transit?

Yes. As part of your student fees, all full-time Durham College students receive a Universal Transit Pass (U-Pass) that offers:

If I’m living in residence how will I get to the Pickering Learning Site?

The Durham Region Transit bus 915 travels from the Oshawa campus to the Ajax GO station, from the Ajax GO station the 923 bus travels to the Pickering GO station. You will then cross a walking bridge that leads directly to the new Pickering Learning Site.

Does Durham College own the building?

No, Durham College does not own the building but has a long-term lease and is committed to the success of this new site.
