As Durham College continues to focus on the importance of workplace integrated learning we must recognize the crux of its success which is based on the ongoing support of our voluntary placement hosts.
As such, we are always looking for ways to validate, strengthen and expand these relationships in order to continue to fulfill our student’s experience and learning outcomes. Therefore, in order to build this outreach and sustain these valuable connections, we wish to show our gratitude we invite them all to our Annual Employer Appreciation event.
Representatives from businesses, government institutions and non-profit organizations across Durham Region and the Greater Toronto Area gather at the W. Galen Weston Centre for Food for food, fun and appreciation.
Organized by our DC Placement Officers as well as our students in DC’s Event Management (graduate certificate) program, the event is to recognize the invaluable contribution placement and practicum hosts make to experiential learning when they open their doors to DC students. In fact, more than 600 organizations serve as hosts to more than 5,000 students each year. Our Host enjoyed live music, wine and delicious food throughout the evening.
Guests heard from Elizabeth Corner, director, Medical and Academic Affairs at Lakeridge Health, and John Fledderus, chief financial officer, Owasco Automotive Group, about their experiences hosting DC students.
Jennifer Jones, a third-year student enrolled in the college’s Human Resources – Business Administration program also spoke about her placement at the Durham Children’s Aid Society.
The continued support and mentorship from our Host is invaluable and DC works hard to sustain these relationships for our future students.
