Volunteers needed – FIRST LEGO League Ontario Provincial Championship

FIRST Canada is looking for volunteers to assist with the annual FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Challenge Ontario Provincial Championship, hosted by Durham College (DC) on Saturday, January 14 and Sunday, January 15, 2023.

This event will bring to the Oshawa campus more than 400 students, ages nine to fourteen, as well as their friends, family, teachers and coaches, to compete for LEGO robotics supremacy.

This is an excellent opportunity to support young STEM enthusiasts while gaining valuable experience working with youth, parents/guardians and administrators from across Ontario that can be added to a resumé (volunteers will receive written recognition for their participation). A free T-shirt and lunch are also included.

Available volunteer roles for the day include:

  • Judges (no background in robotics is required)
  • Field re-setter
  • Team ambassador
  • Robot game queuer
  • And many more!

The following steps must be taken to register as a volunteer:

  • Sign up to volunteer by creating a new (or log in to your existing) user account.
    • Use this video to guide the process
    • Once the application is complete, the Youth Protection screening process (YPP) will be initiated. Those who were screened within the last 48 months only need to accept the updated terms and conditions for YPP. Please click here for a brief instructional video about the screening process.
  • Emails from the event coordinators will follow successful applications and screenings.
  • Finally, approved volunteers should arrive at their tournament at the specified time and location and prepare to inspire and be inspired!
