In this course, students will gain insight into both theoretical and practical aspects of counselling while utilizing counselling techniques. Emphasis will be place on the development of concepts, skills, and intervention strategies required of staff working with youth, either individually or in a group setting. Counselling can be planned or spontaneous. The focus of counselling in all situations is on listening, observing, giving feedback, and demonstrating empathy. Specific types of counselling will be explored such as addiction, CBT, anxiety and depression.
