Adolescent and Young Adulthood

This course builds upon the study of developmental processes and milestones in childhood and continues the chronological progression begun in Child Development CYCA 2501. Growth and development in the physical, cognitive, and social domains will be explored in the adolescent and young adult. Adolescence is a time of significant change and for resilient young people these challenges are mastered successfully. However, for some young people, these tasks can result in significant behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. Students will explore relational practice that focuses on the young person as the "expert" in order to enhance protective factors and develop effective coping strategies.
