Social Welfare

Social Welfare provides an overview of the Canadian social welfare system and the effects of major policy shifts on service delivery. The course begins by exploring aspects of the social welfare system that are unique to Canada. The course then explores the impact of relevant legislation and social policies on social service delivery. Students will examine social welfare topics such as poverty, homelessness, the family, indigenous people of Canada, and disability within a larger social, political and economic context. The course progresses to identifying advocacy and change strategies that promote social justice, inclusion and equality.
