Human Resource Management

This course provides an introduction to aspects of human resources management useful for any manager, with an emphasis on their application to the recreation and leisure industry. Following an overview of the strategic role of human resources management today, it introduces students to the competencies required in core human resources functions: planning, job analysis and design, recruitment and selection, training and orientation, compensation and benefit management, performance management and employee retention. The legal framework of human resources management is a focus of the course, with discussions of human rights and diversity in the workplace, pay and employment equity, the law of dismissal, privacy rights in the workplace, and health and safety legislation.
