Employee & Labour Relations

This course is designed to provide the student with a full working knowledge in the human resources management topics of employee relations and labour relations. It emphasizes four major phases of labour relations - the desires of dissatisfied workers to seek union representation, the union organizing campaign, collective bargaining, and contract administration. The student will also examine key employee relations activities in non-union work settings including - fair and equitable employment policies and procedures, clear and continuous employee communication and feedback, and processes for minimizing conflict and creating dispute resolution mechanisms. These areas will be explored in the context of existing labour relations and employee relations models and respective historical trends. Lectures, videos, case studies, and simulations will assist the student in developing professional awareness and orientation to the subject.
