Photography and Image Editing

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of photography as well as editing in the "digital darkroom". The technical and visual components of the photograph will be explored along with preparing images for print and web use. Critical skills in understanding and interpreting photographs will also be taught. Students will receive instruction in the use of the digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera and basic printing techniques. The student will be required to manually adjust shutter speed and aperture. Assignments will include the use of composition, depth of field and portrait shooting techniques both on location and in the photographic studio. This course introduces the student to camera and image manipulation, from the camera to software applications such as Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe Lightroom.
