This course offers the student the opportunity to transfer the knowledge and skills learned in the following courses: PSWF 1500, INTS 1500, PSWH 1500, Bio 1503 and PSWL 15000 into a long term care practicum experience. Under the guidance and supervision of a Durham College Practicum Supervisor, the student will work interact with residents, their families, and other members of the health care team, while assisting with ADL's. The PSW student recognizes that psychomotor skills learned must be performed safely, while applying relevant basic knowledge and problem solving skills. Developing effective, communication skills, helping relationships and working in groups contribute to the student's ability to function safely and effectively within the health care team while providing resident-centered/resident-directed care.
