Officer Safety-Practicum

Physical confrontations and the requirement to control and restrain a subject is a highly probable function required of a law enforcement officer during the lawful execution of their duties. This course will provide a student with instruction on officer safety and a basic introduction to defensive tactics. The focus for the physical skills component will be effectively controlling a potentially violent person and being able to place the person in restraints in a timely manner, utilizing techniques that are tactically, legally and medically defensible. This course includes theory and practical components and as such, students must be willing and able to participate in the physical skills component to successfully complete the course. The purpose of this course is to provide participants with basic skills and tactics that are only intended to be applied in a defensive manner within the legal parameters and guidelines of the law. The tactics and skills have been designed for use by members in the law enforcement field and are to be treated with the highest level of professional discretion and only in the lawful execution of professional duties.
