Radiography & Radiation Safety

This course provides the foundational body of knowledge and practice for industrial radiography, introducing students to radiation protection and radiographic inspection. The course overviews radiation and radiation source fundamentals, radiation detection, safe operational procedures, radiation limits and the associated regulatory requirements. It outlines aspects of the production of radiographic images, imaging/film processing, exposure techniques and considerations including the associated calculations. Under direct supervision students will generate radiographic images using X-ray and manual radiographic film processing. This Course content meets the training requirements of: 1) the NDTCB and CAN/CGSB-48.9712 standard for Qualification and Certification of Non-Destructive Testing Personnel for RT Level 1; 2) CSA PCP-09 standard for Exposure Device Operators. Radiation safety training is completed in the first portion of the course and mandatory for Radiography Level 1.
