Intro to Energy Conservation

Students will be introduced to the concepts of energy conservation (reduced consumption, green generation and sustainable living). They will identify through experiential learning (hands-on interaction, experimentation, observation, discussion and reflection) ways to reduce man's dependency on fossil fuels. Students will understand the impact of burning fossil fuels is having on the environment and society. Students will learn and practice the basics of a home energy audit utilizing the tools and procedures defined by NRCan (Natural Resources Canada). They will also learn how to set-up, operate and interpret the results of a Blower Door Test. Hot2000, RETScreen and the Ci App will be demonstrated as software tools to model energy consumption, evaluate renewable energy options and the basics of building science.
