Library Spaces

Effective September 8, 2020, the Oshawa Campus Library will be open with significant limitations on seating and building capacity. Masks will be required for everyone who visits the Library.

While our Whitby Campus Library remains closed, our services and supports continue to be available remotely or you can visit us in person at our Oshawa location.

  • Monday - Thursday: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
  • Friday: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
  • Saturday/Sunday: Closed

Whitby Library

  • Closed
Building Access

Library spaces are open for current students, staff and faculty only. Valid Covid Pre-Screen result is required to enter.

We are not able to welcome alumni or members of the general public as visitors at this time.

Available Services

The outside Book Return bin at the Oshawa Campus Library is accessible 24/7. Please note: there is limited access to the Book Return bin at the Whitby Campus Library.

During library open hours the following services are available in the building:

  • All library material can be accessed and the circulating collection is available for loan.
  • Staff are available in person and by phone at the Service Desk to assist with your library needs.
  • Colour and black and white printers and copier.
  • Washrooms are open.
  • Quiet individual study space and computers.
Study Space

In order to meet physical distancing requirements, the Oshawa Campus Library is open for individual, quiet study only. Group study is not permitted. All spaces in the Library are available on a first come, first served basis. A maximum of 166 people are permitted in the Library at one time.

Food & Drink

Food and drinks are not permitted in the Library in order to comply with the mandatory mask policy on campus.

Food and drinks are permitted in the Durham College Marketplace.


Masks or face coverings are mandatory for all students, staff and faculty while inside the Library. Individuals who are not able to wear masks for medical or other reasons can make accommodation arrangements through the following departments:

The library has one fully enclosed study room available on a first come, first served basis, which can be used without a mask.

Online Resources

Search Omni, our Library’s online search tool to access the Library’s ebooks, online journal and newspaper articles, streaming video and more. Login for access 24/7 with your campus network login credentials.

Research Guides are curated by your Librarian to highlight the best resources for your assignments and projects.

Databases A-Z lists all of our subscription databases. Filter this list by subject or format to quickly find sources for your research.

Interlibrary Loan

Our Interlibrary Loan service is available at no cost to students and faculty. We are currently fulfilling requests for electronic articles and single ebook chapters. We are not able to obtain print books or entire ebooks.

Returns & Renewals

Login to your Library Account to view material currently on loan, renew material and confirm due dates.

As of September 8, 2020 the Library is open and processing returned material. During the Library closure, due dates on all loaned items were extended. The final extension is to November 27, 2020. Please either renew or return Library material in order to avoid overdue fines.

The outside Book Return bin at the Oshawa Campus Library is accessible 24/7. Please note: there is limited access to the Book Return bin at the Whitby Campus Library.

Requesting Books: Delivery & Digitization

You can place requests for books which are currently on loan or in the library at the Whitby or Oshawa Campus Libraries for pick up at the Oshawa Campus Library or mailed to you.

You must be signed in to Omni to place requests. Click the Request button under Get It in the Omni record, and complete the required information. You will receive an email notification when the item is ready for pickup or contacted regarding mail options.

The Library also offers Digitization for single chapters or single articles from print books and journals. To request digitization, click on the Digitization button under Get It in the Omni record, and complete the required information. Digitization requests are subject to the limitations of the Copyright Act, Fair Dealing and Access Copyright.

Course Reserves

Print Reserves are available at the Oshawa Campus Library on one or three day loan, with a mandatory three day quarantine for all returned materials. Reserve material can now be renewed (online, by phone or in person).

Electronic Reserves are available, subject to the limitations of the Copyright Act, Fair Dealing and Access Copyright.

We are currently accepting faculty course reserve requests. Please note that faculty need to complete a Course Reserves Request form in order to ensure that material is available on reserve.

Meet with your Subject Librarian

Teaching Support

Librarians are here to support teaching and learning in all Durham College classrooms, whether in person or online. Subject Librarians are available to deliver customized instruction sessions and workshops to help students develop their skills to find, evaluate and ethically use information from a variety of sources. We offer live online sessions as well as asynchronous sessions delivered through your DC Connect course website.
