Heather Bickle: Health promotion coordinator
Heather coordinates health promotion on campus and oversees operations at the Solace Centre. Having worked in the mental health field for over 10 years, she has a passion for harm reduction and health education. She also enjoys building community and helping students explore their own ways to wellness from a person-centered approach; wellness is more than kale and yoga! Heather also coordinates the Health and Wellness Ambassador program. When not out facilitating outreach or workshops, she can be found conducting research for policies and procedures on campus and planning wellness-based events.
Steven O' Riordan: Wellness coach
Steven has worked in the mental health field for 10 years, providing support and guidance to clients from a wide variety of backgrounds. A qualified Personal and Business Coach, Steven received accreditation from the Irish Lifecoach Institute in 2011 and worked as a Life Coach and Mindfulness Facilitator in private practice for five years.
He has been practicing secular and Buddhist meditation for over 10 years and has engaged in professional training in this field with the University of Toronto and The Centre for Mindfulness Studies in Toronto.
As a Wellness Coach at the Solace Centre, Steven supports students in developing a deeper sense of self by helping them understand their decisions, actions, thoughts and feelings. He meets students wherever they are on their personal journeys and helps create a reflective space where they can express themselves, find purpose and meaning and set actionable goals, empowering them to be their best.
Sylvia Emmorey RHN. ROHP. RNCP: Registered holistic nutritionist
Sylvia provides nutritional counselling for students, drawing on 15 years of experience as a health expert in the Durham Region. As a holistic nutritionist, she uses an approach that blends her conventional health care and nutrition background with the natural therapies of progressive functional medicine.
She facilitates integrative health programs to diverse groups, organizations and individuals with a wide array of health concerns and wellness goals. Sylvia has assisted hundreds in resolving chronic conditions, creating health and enhancing vitality, wherever on the wellness spectrum of life they may be. She is also a professor for a number of Durham College’s Nutrition and wellness programs.
