Opportunities abroad Current opportunity FLCA@Home and Away: Storytelling PROGRAM OVERVIEW Are you a storyteller interested in deepening your understanding of Indigenous communities around the world or expanding your knowledge of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? We are looking for a variety of storytellers! For some of you, that may be the written word, graphic design, painting or podcasting. For others, your storytelling is showcased through photo, video, animation, game art or another form of media. The Faculty-Led Classroom Abroad (FLCA)@Home and Away: Storytelling will further your skills as a storyteller, help you deepen your understanding of what reconciliation means in Canada and around the world, and help you build the cross-cultural skills required as a global citizen and as a professional. FLCA@Home and Away: Storytelling will allow you to connect with other DC students and Indigenous and traditional communities in Guatemala to learn, interact and exchange knowledge. You will earn academic credits while participating, virtually and physically, and also experiencing the culture and lifestyle in Guatemala. HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW FLCA@Home and Away: Storytelling consists of pre-participation kick-off online modules in early October, one week of virtual activities during fall reading week (October 24 – 28, 2022), and approximately 10 days of travel during the winter reading week (exact travel dates to be confirmed). At the end of the winter semester, there will be a showcase of stories co-created by DC students and students in Guatemala. Participants will be awarded a certificate upon project completion. Eligibility: This project is open to students from the Faculty of Media, Art & Design (MAD). Students with an interest in storytelling not from MAD will be considered only by exception. There is a travel bursary for eligible students that will cover the majority of costs! Eligible students must have a valid passport and be eligible to travel to foreign countries.
