Happy Human Rights Day! Did you know that on December 10, 2024, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UNDHR) turned 76? Durham College (DC) joins the global community in acknowledging and celebrating Human Rights Day – the day on which the United Nations General Assembly adopted the UNDHR in 1948.

DC is committed to providing an inclusive and respectful learning and working environment. Today, in celebration of this year’s Human Rights Day theme, “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now”, OEDI hosted a workshop aimed at educating participants on human rights history and current challenges and also empowering them with necessary skills to overcome challenges to fostering a more inclusive campus community.
We are currently working on enhancing our Harassment, Workplace Sexual Harassment/Misconduct and Discrimination Policy as required by the recent Strengthening Accountability and Student Supports Act (2024). We will be conducting consultations with students over the coming months to guide the enhancement of this policy. Please fill out our anonymous 10-minute survey and then enter the draw to win one of 10 $50 Amazon gift cards, just in time for the holidays! The survey closes on December 15. Keep an eye on you DC Mail and our Instagram account @EquityatDC in the coming weeks for other opportunities to share your experiences and offer insights on the needed systemic interventions to ensure that we all can enjoy a campus community where our human rights are upheld.
We invite you to explore resources to help you learn more about Human Rights Day, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and about our rights and responsibilities to create a campus community free of hate, discrimination and harassment:
