This message is shared on behalf of Dr. Elaine Popp, President, Durham College.
Tomorrow, March 8, is International Women’s Day and Durham College (DC) proudly joins the global community in recognizing the achievements of women while reaffirming our commitment for a more inclusive and equitable world.
This year’s global theme – For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment. – is a powerful call to action, reminding us that progress must reach every woman, everywhere. As a college and an employer, we have the platform and responsibility to drive meaningful change by fostering education, awareness and opportunity.
Every day, I see the impact of our efforts across our campuses and in our broader community. Our students, employees, and alumni are breaking barriers, redefining leadership, and innovating in every field. Their passion, innovation, and resilience not only strengthen and uplift our college community but also inspire progress beyond it.
Yet, while we celebrate progress, we recognize that achieving true equality requires ongoing commitment and action. Education is one of the most powerful tools for change. We take pride in our role in empowering women to pursue fulfilling careers, especially in fields where they have historically been underrepresented, through initiatives that promote non-traditional occupations, fair hiring practices and the amplification of women’s voices.
At DC, we will continue to champion a culture of inclusion, respect, and empowerment for all. Today, and every day, let’s create a future where women and girls can thrive without limitations.
