Here’s what you need to know about opting-in or out of the Durham College Student Association (DCSA) Health and Dental Plan.
The policy year for January-start students begins Monday, January 1 and coverage continues until Saturday, August 31. You can access your Benefit Card, submit claims, view coverage and so much more using the Medavie Blue Cross mobile app. Download the app by visiting the Medavie website.
Download your Plan Card from www.studentvip.ca. Your policy number is 0091963000.
Please note that only 2024 full-time January-start students can make the following adjustments to their plan. Full-time students who started in September 2023 are not eligible.
Looking to opt-out of the plan?
Students with other health and dental plan coverage can elect to opt-out of the DCSA-provided plan. To opt-out, students must visit the Student VIP website and complete the online opt-out form by Wednesday, January 31. You will be required to provide proof of other coverage.
Need to extend your coverage to other family members?
Adding dependents and partners or spouses is easy, but opt-in must be done before Wednesday, January 31. Check out the Student VIP website for more details. Note: If are continuing full time in September 2024, dependents must be opted in again for the 2024-2025 policy year during the month of September.
Note: Only full-time students are eligible for the Health and Dental Coverage and there are some exceptions to what Durham College (DC) considers full-time. If you are not sure if you are considered full-time you can check with DC Strategic Enrollment Services.
Fully delivered online programs (Critical Care Nursing and Pre-Health Sciences – online) have adjusted ancillary fees. Please visit your program fee calculator to see the amounts associated with your delivery.
International students
International students are enrolled under two mandatory health insurance plans and can opt dependents into both coverages. Dependents must have International Insurance provided by Student VIP or an OHIP alternative to be eligible for the Health and Dental Plan.
The deadline to opt your dependents into the International Insurance and the Health and Dental Plan is Wednesday, January 31. If your dependents arrive in Canada after the deadline, you have 30 days to arrange the opt-in. You will need to provide proof of the arrival date. Contact Donna Judson for more information.
