Seasonal safety reminder: Geese on campus

This message is being shared on behalf of Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety Office

As spring arrives, staff, students, and visitors may notice an increase in geese activity across campus grounds. This is a normal seasonal occurrence, particularly during nesting and breeding season.

While geese are generally not aggressive, they can become protective of their nests and young, especially if they feel threatened. To help maintain a safe and respectful campus environment, please keep the following in mind:

  • Give geese plenty of space – do not approach, touch, or attempt to feed them
  • Avoid areas where geese are nesting whenever possible
  • Do not interfere with nests or goslings
  • If a goose appears agitated, calmly change direction and allow it space to move away

Geese are protected wildlife and disturbing them or their nests is not permitted. Campus teams continue to monitor high‑activity areas and will take action where required to support safety.

If you notice aggressive behaviour or a situation that poses a potential safety concern, please report it to Campus Security so the appropriate follow‑up can occur.

Thank you for your cooperation and for helping keep our campus safe for everyone during the spring season.
