Staying safe in residence during Campus Safety Week

Your safety is the top priority of our Residence team. In recognition of Campus Safety Week, February 23 to 27, we’ve put together some important reminders to help you stay safe and secure in your residence community.

Access and guests
Your key is your responsibility. Always carry it with you and never share it or allow others to tailgate behind you through secured doors. All guests must sign in at the front desk before entering.

Fire and electrical safety
Only use CSA-approved appliances and remember to unplug hair tools after use. Avoid overloading electrical outlets. Please do not charge e-bikes or e-scooters inside your suite. Residence is actively working on external charging solutions.

Theft prevention
Keep your suite door closed and latched at all times and never prop doors open. If you’re expecting a food delivery, make sure you’re available to receive it in person.

Support is always available
You’re never on your own. Front desks at South Village and Simcoe Village are staffed 24/7, and Resident Advisors are on duty every night. The Campus Walk program is also available to accompany you safely across campus during evening hours.

In an emergency
Use emergency phones, follow PA system instructions, and participate in fire drills. If you call 911, please notify the front desk right away.
