Principles of Purchasing is intended as an introduction to the field of purchasing and supply chain management. The field of purchasing has evolved from narrowly defined activity into a professional supply chain management function driven by people and technology. This course establishes an understanding of the purchasing function's contributions to profitability and includes the following areas of study: the legal aspect of purchasing, Just-in-time or lean purchasing, purchasing procedure and E-procurement. The course concludes with providing some tools and techniques in selecting and evaluating suppliers as well as variety of techniques and methods in the area of Total Quality Management and its application in purchasing function.
