FLCA projects FLCA 2024-25 FLCA-Italy: Architectural Technology #DCinRome – Architecture Tour Second and third-year students will travel to Italy to study art and architecture in cities of Rome, Pompeii, and Foligno, where they will engage with the Bibliotheca Orientalis. They will study the roots of architecture through the lens of the cultural intersection of East and West by examining works of antiquity and renaissance in contemporary cities. They will also focus on the importance of preserving historical buildings as cultural property as well as the materials and techniques used to build and maintain buildings. Deadline passed FLCA-Costa Rica: Behavioural Sciences Home and Away While Applied Behavioural Analysis (ABA) is widely used across North America, it is not as commonly used within Central America. Students will visit schools, special education centers and health care facilities in Costa Rica to gain insight into the teaching methods and types of therapy used within a broader global context. Through travel to three communities, students will also explore the differences in resources available in urban versus rural areas and the impact that may have on the services provided. Deadline passed FLCA-Denmark: Strengthening Student Advocacy for Elder Care Excellence Denmark is at the forefront of dementia care, pioneering innovative housing solutions and cutting-edge technology that empower seniors to live safely and with dignity. By embracing these advancements, Denmark not only enhances the quality of life for its elderly population but also significantly reduces healthcare costs. This project sees 10 students from the Personal Support Worker, Journalism, and Video Production programs join forces to explore Denmark’s novel approach to dementia care by immersing themselves in the Danish model to enhance their classroom learning. PSW students will meet and hear from seniors, healthcare professionals, and technology leaders, while Journalism and Video Production students capture compelling stories, photos, and videos to share back home. Together, they will bring back invaluable insights and inspire new ways to support seniors living with dementia in Ontario. Deadline passed FLCA Culinary Management: Peruvian Gastronomy Tour Peru is one of the top culinary destinations in the world! Students will have the opportunity to master traditional Peruvian cuisine techniques, use and apply traditional Peruvian ingredients and learn traditional Peruvian baking and dessert recipes. Furthermore, students will explore the Minka Market, downtown Lima, and have an opportunity to explore Lima’s rich cultural history. They will work with local Mayan youth to help create and tell stories about Indigenous rights in Canada, in Guatemala and around the world, while building the cross-cultural skills needed as a global citizen and as a professional. Deadline passed FLCA Barbados - The Business of Field Hockey Abroad 2024 Second and Third-Year students (as of September 2024) from two programs, Sport Management and Marketing, will come together to provide business consultation services for a local sport company in Barbados (Cat’s International Sports). In supporting Cat’s International Sports (CIS), students will be presented with a business challenge that CIS is facing and will volunteer as part of the Global Organic Tourism Master Plan tournament (a tournament that has a variety of sports, both water and land based for international teams in the Caribbean), that they are partnering with. By volunteering at the event, students will get a perspective of how the event is currently marketed, executed and run and will be able to develop recommendations for next year’s event. Students will research the current situation, develop recommendations, and present results to the executives. This program includes cultural visits, volunteering at an international sport event, and consulting and analysis for a sport business. Many of these innovations are studied to this day and continue to influence and inspire further developments in art and technology. EVPN students will be involved in the set-up and execution of the event, while also participating as attendees to get a sense of what is included in the organization to execute a large, international event. TDMK students will work alongside Tourism San Diego to execute a number of programs related to promotion of San Diego to over 3,000 international delegates.
