International Wellness Check-up Make your health and wellness a priority this year by booking an international student wellness check with the Campus Health and Wellness Centre. Our international health team will address any health concerns you might have. The check-up and majority of laboratory tests that may be recommend are covered through your health insurance! WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE CHECK-UP? MEDICAL EXAM Focused physical examination. Medical history and immunization status review. Screening for common issues (i.e. fatigue, headaches and low motivation). Medication management. Referrals to specialists as needed. HEALTH EDUCATION Review of sexual health resources and counselling, smoking cessation programs, dietary education and resources for adapting to a new country. MENTAL HEALTH EDUCATION Review of available mental health resources and supports for students including counselling services, mental health nurses, coaching, crisis support and psychiatry referrals. International Student Health Insurance As an international student in Canada, you have health insurance to help cover the costs of health services if you ever feel ill or get into an accident and need medical aid. Durham College Students: Morcare’s International Student Plan, otherwise known as the OHIP Alternative Plan, is basic health insurance, and covers things like doctor’s visits, hospital care and much more. Please note that every time you visit the Campus Health and Wellness Centre you will need a physical copy (not on cell phone) of your International Student Plan. To print out your insurance card or to learn more please visit the Morecare website. Students will need to present a second piece of identification with their full name shown when using Morecare at the CHWC. In addition, all Durham College students have access to additional insurance coverage with Student VIP through the Durham College Student Association which helps in covering prescription drugs, extended health (i.e. vision, chiropractor, physiotherapy), dental, and emergency travel insurance. The extended coverage (Student VIP) does not cover every service 100%. Consult the Student VIP website for more information on what is covered, and how to make claims. Ontario Tech Students: The University Health Insurance Plan (UHIP) is compulsory for all international students at Ontario Tech University and is equivalent of provincial health care. It covers things like doctor’s visits, hospital care and much more. If you have a gender preference please let our reception clerks know when booking an appointment. Does the CHWC offer optometry services (i.e. prescriptions for glasses)? We do not provide optometry services. Does the CHWC have a nutritionist?
