This course is designed to enable the student to develop the knowledge and skills required to establish and maintain a helping relationship with oncology and palliative care patients and their families throughout the trajectory of the cancer experience. Topics to be explored include factors affecting coping and helping relationships, effective communication and interviewing skills, crisis management, psychosocial issues in Cancer/Palliative care and burnout and ethical issues.
