What is a prerequisite course?
A prerequisite is a course (or another qualification) required as preparation for entry into another course. It is your responsibility to ensure that all prerequisites are met before registering for a course or workshop. If you lack the appropriate prerequisites, you will be asked to withdraw or transfer to a more suitable subject, with the risk of incurring a financial penalty.
If you are working towards a certificate or diploma program, you must adhere to all prerequisites.
How to fulfill prerequisites?
You have a few options to fulfill your prerequisites:
- Complete the course.
- Complete a Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition Challenge (fees may apply) or
- Apply for a credit transfer.
If you are taking a course for general information and feel that you have sufficient knowledge or experience to complete the course, you may register without the prerequisite.
The instructor may request that you withdraw if he/she believes that your level of knowledge/skill does not meet the prerequisite requirement. Additional help during or after class will not be provided if you have not taken the prerequisite course(s).
