Program Description

This program has been designed in partnership with industry leaders to provide crucial insights into the complexity of this rapidly evolving sector. Graduates will be able to support employers with a knowledge of how legislative requirements inform business practices and impact supply chain management. In addition, they will possess an understanding of key characteristics of cannabis and its cultivation, along with a historical perspective of social concerns, all of which will help participants work in an ethical, legal and socially responsible manner. This program is ideally suited to those who already have business experience and are interested in preparing to move into the cannabis industry.

Important Note:

  • Upon the successful completion of each course you will receive a digital badge. Note the Cannabis Business Operations course consists of 5 micro-courses. Upon completing all 5 micro-courses we will issue you the Business Operations course digital badge.

  • Program Requirements

    • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) including Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U) OR
    • Grade 12 equivalency certificate achieved through College academic upgrading OR
    • Mature Student Status (19 years of age or older) with Grade 12 English (C or U) and Grade 11 Math (C, M or U)
    • You must maintain an overall average of 60% or a GPA of 2.0 in order to graduate
    • A minimum of 25% of courses must be completed through Durham College.

    Program Outcomes

    Upon completion of this program, students will be equipped to:

    • Identify and discuss the complexities of the global cannabis legalization landscape on the Canadian cannabis industry.
    • Analyze the ethical implications of the use of medical and recreational cannabis in Canadian society.
    • Support the development and execution of cannabis business initiatives by leveraging a thorough knowledge of industry-specific operations and supply chain management.
    • Apply the Canadian cannabis regulatory framework to business decision-making practices.
    • Develop tailored business responses to the medical and recreational cannabis marketplace.
    • Assess operational risk within the context of Canadian cannabis businesses.
    • Describe the structure and characteristics of the cannabis plant and how it is cultivated.
    • Work in a manner consistent with business compliance, legal requirements, practices and protocols as applicable in the Canadian cannabis industry.
