Building Environmental Systems Operator

The Building Environmental Systems (BES) Operator program is designed for technical sales representatives, energy auditors, and building contractors. It is essential for anyone responsible for efficient building operation or seeking to expand their skill set. These certificates are recognized by the Toronto Building Managers and Operators Association (TBMOA). The Operator Class I certificate is recognized by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA).

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates have reliably demonstrated the following learning outcomes:

  • Describe the interrelationships of building systems, including heating, cooling, air handling, electrical, and water treatment systems, in complex buildings.
  • Describe the components of heating, cooling, air handling, electrical, water treatment, and control systems in complex buildings.
  • Describe the safe operation of heating, cooling, air handling, electrical, water treatment, and control systems in complex buildings.
  • Describe the maintenance of heating, cooling, air handling, electrical, water treatment, and control systems in complex buildings.

Upon successful completion of this program, graduates have reliably demonstrated the following learning outcomes:

  • Recommend energy efficient practices based on analyses of energy use in heating, cooling, air handling, lighting, and electrical systems within complex buildings.
  • Apply theory and skills from Building Environmental Systems Class II courses to a specialty area such as air systems design, hospital building systems, or pipe systems design.
